shadowartist's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Polluted Lungs It's early Friday night and here I sit amongst the clothes, papers, CDs, and electronic stuff all scattered around the small area. This week has been pretty uneventful to say the least, so I'm glad it's finally over. I do have an announcement to make about my site... If you're wondering why you aren't able to get in, it's because I hate you all and won't let you look at my masterpiece... No, it's not that. I found that several people could not see the layout thanks to my limited .html skills. I have temporarily shut it down until, I hope, the end of the weekend. It should be fixed by then. So, needless to say... It seems to be getting a lot colder outside these days. The pond in our "backyard" has a fog-like addition to it in the early morning hours. The grass is covered in ice from the dew that had frozen the night before. Everyone is sick and wearing thick coats and sweatshirts instead of the tanks and shorts of summer. Yes, this is my kind of weather! My mom got into a car accident a few nights ago with her new car. Some really old lady just piled right into the Mitsubishi thinking that the intersection they were in was a three-lane"r." She smashed into the passenger side and bowed the fender a bit. There's some silver paint and a tiny dent where the car had actually hit, which are small enough to fix. My step-dad was sitting on that side, but he's okay; however, my mom wasn't so lucky. Being the delicate flower that she is, a muscle was pulled in her side, so she is needing some meds for it. I guess it's really getting to her. I wish I knew what to do! We did a lab in Chemistry today that really bothered my lungs. We had to test KCl (Potassium Chloride) and KI (Potassium Iodine), with a HIGHLY flammable chemical called Hexane and fire. As soon as I walked into the classroom, I began choking and coughing, and gasping for air as I could feel my lungs tighten to a point where I felt like I was drowning in the odor. It eventually did clear up; however, someone decided it would be cool to put KI in the Hexane and put the mixture into the little holder and put the holder over a burning-gas flame. The smell was horrendous but not as bad as the flame that was instantly lit on the tiny holder. The guy jumped a little at the shock as sparks began to fly and the flame began to grow. We all yelled at him to get it under water and tightened the pressure of the gas so it would put out the comparible flame of which the flame of concern came from. He did and it finally went out, much to our relief. Still, from the shock and the horrible smell that was mixed with the familiar smell of smoke, I was set off again with the coughing. I still haven't recovered... Oh then I accidentally grabbed a paper towel that was COVERED in Hexane with my bare hand. Needless to say, my hand was highly flammable throughout the entire day! Well, it happened again. I got to looking around on the internet and saw a template that looked better than mine... I'm not pleased one bit, so... You'll probably be noticing changes in the blog again. Now that I know more about the .html stuff (not a lot but enough), I can really get to work! I have a lot of homework to do this weekend, and a lot of art. There have been a few requests given to me that I have to fulfill. I'm usually good about that... usually. 9:10 p.m. - 2003-11-07 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
